ABOUT GG

Restaurant Concept

Greenwich Grill
Located on the building’s main floor, Greenwich Grill serves as the entrance to both restaurants. It features “Tokyo-Italian” cuisine—a strong Italian base with a subtle infusion of Japanese tastes, ingredients, and cooking techniques used to pull out the full umami found in Italian food. Responding to the frequent requests of customers, both nigiri sushi and sushi rolls from Sushi Azabu are also available to customers dining in Greenwich Grill, usually serving as an appetizer or an additional course during a meal.

Sushi Azabu
Sushi Azabu is a small sushi den tucked away in the basement of the building, serving traditional edo-mae style sushi alongside small Japanese dishes. All of the four sushi chefs are Japanese and trained in Japan, and 70-80% of the fish is imported directly from Japan, 4 times a week. We only use a unique blend of sushi rice imported directly from Japan, using the previous years KOMAI harvest to avoid the overly-high water content associated with fresh harvests of rice. The soy sauce is a house-made, sweetened and reduced NIKIRI soy sauce that we infuse overnight with mirin, kelp, and dried bonito shavings. Even the chopsticks have been meticulously chosen—handmade and imported from Ichihara Heibei craftsmen in Kyoto, a chopstick producer established around 240 years ago.

Both restaurants feature waitstaff trained in Japanese “Omotenashi” service, and most are bilingual in Japanese and English.

Décor

Greenwich Grill
Located in Tribeca, Greenwich Grill has been carefully designed to retain the Romanesque Revival construction of the original 1883 building in which it’s located. The original red brick walls have been left exposed to pay homage to the building’s history, and they are accented with two pieces of custom-made Japanese artwork depicting Mt. Fuji and a mural of cherry blossoms. Dimly lit in a romantic setting, the main dining room is centered around a large flower arrangement, with maroon benches lining all walls of the restaurant.

Sushi Azabu
Sushi Azabu sits atop a bed of smooth river stones with a bamboo and wood-lined ceiling and red walls made of traditional paper—all imported from Japan. Its location, size, and atmosphere allow you to escape from the bustle of the city above ground.
